2 Year Update

It’s been almost two years since I’ve updated this and that is quite a lot of knitting. I tried my hand at YouTube and gave up. If you want to see my sad attempts, the videos are still up. I tried my hand at TikTok. Shockingly, everyone doesn’t love my niche imperfect hobby as much as I do. That’s ok. That’s probably why I don’t keep up with the blog. People aren’t that into it and I’m so enthusiastic that what I expect everyone to love – isn’t. Facebook and Instagram are the same. That’s ok.

That’s ok.

It’s ok, because I still love what I do. I knit. I reflect. I improve. Mostly. Sometimes it feels like two steps forward and one step back.

What have I done in nearly 2 years?

The Sode sweater is sitting on my chair behind me and it’s the most intricate knit I’ve made. It doesn’t sit perfectly on my shoulders because I didn’t do the required short rows but I use a clip to keep it closed in the front when I’m walking or doing anything that requires movement. It’s warm and lovely.

I knit and finished the Tee No 1 using Knit Picks Gloss lace. 2 strands were held together.

I completed two intricate cross stitch projects. Both were of friend’s babies or friend’s relatives babies so I won’t share here but I did use DMC stitch your photo. That took a few months.

Then I got into socks. Lots and lots of socks. I knit two at a time toe up socks, one after another.

I knit on vacation. I knit on paddle boards. I knit at work. I knit stuck in traffic.

I made a bunch of fingerless gloves. My kid managed to put a whole in one so I’ll be fixing that tonight.

I knit a test shawl. It’s my first test knit but I knit in protest too.

Post Surgery

5 days post surgery and I thought I’d be knitting a lot more.

1- you can’t knit on fentanyl. Or stay awake for long. You can order from zulily. Unfortunately.

2- you can’t knit well with an IV in you, especially if the tube goes across your body. It seemed cruel. I still tried

3- no matter how therapeutic, it’s hard to focus on knitting a row when they say cancer. And then tell you it’ll be a few weeks before you know what’s next

I have ovarian cancer and the surgeon may have gotten it all but we won’t know for some time. In the meantime I get to sit, unable to work or clean or even drive. I knit a row and think. I think too much to focus on even this sock.

What does cancer mean? It was caught early so I’m not investing in a casket any time soon. It means at worst, chemo. I’d be a horrible chemo patient. At best, a whole lot more filling out of doctors’ forms and not being able to put off said appointments. It means my body doesn’t function correctly, which I’ve known for years. It means I won’t hear- it’s just stress- when I get weird rashes or sharp pains in my stomach. It means everything changes.

And it means I’m knitting these socks for ME!
